As a non-profit foundation, the African Cats & Conservation Foundation
(ACACF) promotes the protection and continued existence of big cats in Africa.
The purpose is pursued in harmony and in cooperation with the local population.
This project - Leopard Ecology & Conservation, LEC -
is based on a scientific concept of long-term nature
conservation research in the southern region of the Kalahari Desert.
The research camp is located in Khutse Game Reserve.
LEC works closely with the Ministry of
Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and the
Department of Wildlife and National Parks as well as the
Ministry for Agriculture in Botswana
LEC, in partnership with other researchers, is contributing to
the collection of information important for developing strategies
for big cat conservation in Botswana.
In parallel with the conservation research, this project supports
the local communities in various initiatives. Nature conservation
is only sustainable if it is implemented with
the support of the local communities.
